Washington Butler was born from Puyallup Washington State, became attracted to the arts as a child. The choir she sang in was entered into performances in singing contests, and was a part of high school and community theatre. Her move from Los Angeles in order to study at the University of Southern California and later played Belle the princess for two and a half years in Disneyland. When she dropped out of college, she began searching for a talent agency and auditioning to work in television and film. Butler guest-starred in the TV shows CSI: Miami and CSI: NY. Her auditions led to parts in the films A Couple of White Chicks at the Hair Dresser, and in the Syfy TV horror film Flu Bird Horror (2008). Butler was featured in the year-long web-based series Luke 11:17, produced by Don Stark. Butler also played a regular part in I Love Vampires, a web serial. Butler won the leading role in 2010's rape-revenge thriller I Spit on Your Grave. This is a remake from 1978 of the beloved classic of the same name. At first, she was dissuaded by the violence and nudity but the characters' development as well as the feminist aspect made her reconsider. Butler played Jennifer Hills who is a writer, and she gets assaulted by a group in a forest. She is the character who seeks revenge against her attackers. Steven R. Monroe, director of the film, announced it on the 8th October 2010. Butler began shooting the psychological thriller The Stranger Within alongside Estella Warren and William Baldwin in Mallorca Spain beginning in November of 2011. The film was scheduled to shoot on location in Copenhagen Denmark and New York City.She was part of the crew for the film, an independent one Treachery starring Michael Biehn which began filming in Los Angeles in June 2012. Butler also co-starred alongside Michael Welch in 2013's horror film The Demented.

As a baby she started appearing in television commercials. Ferland's first appearance on film and TV came at the age of four in the film Mermaid. Ferland played Bree Tanner in Eclipse the third installment of the Twilight franchise. The Cabin in the Woods Mighty Fine Icy Quake The Holiday Heist Case 39 together with Renee Zellweger are among her numerous TV and film credits. Ferland is not only her Emmy nominations she's received in her career nearly several other honors. These include a Young Artist Award and a CAMIE Award.
